Gurdeep Singh Kadian

How Gurdeep K became a Runner from a boring banker? Read on to know more…. Hailing from a district in Haryana and coming to Kolkata to work a 10-5 job in Public sector Bank, Gurdeep was getting restless and bored. To find an option for some recreation, he started backpacking and solo trips which were fun and great refreshment but still he felt that something is missing and wanted to do something else too. His colleague and dear friend introduced him to Marathon events and one lucky day he decided to try it. Being a fresher who never ran more than a few hundred meters, he wasn't really prepared for the 5K run. But on the same event he saw an old man running in front of him with full zest and he got inspired enough to complete the run and received "finisher's medal". That medal inspired him a lot and ignited the spark inside him that he was looking for. Slowly with time, he enhanced his speed and skill and completed half marathon (21K) in 1.30 hrs. The bug has bitten and he is in no mood to stop. Till now he completed one Full marathon (~42 K), two 25K marathon event, and several half marathon & 10K events. He always encourage people for living healthier and better life.  He helped many person to complete their first 5K by means of encouraging them. This time, in Kolkata Police Safe Drive Save Life (SDSL) Half Marathon, he decided not to go for his personal best. Instead he will be supporting all beginners and help them to finish their 10K in 90min. Nikhil Golchha

I am a design engineer by profession and tinker with electronic components for fun. I was motivated by my grandfather who forced me out of bed every morning so that I could drive him to a nearby park for his routine morning walks. Little jogs in the park got me into running, and I soon joined a running group that trained around the maidan area. What started as a small running group (with just 4 runners) grew into a great running community (Kolkata Road Runners). Almost 2.5 years into running now; I have actively participated in most local runs (10k’s), half marathons and 25k’s. I did my first full in Mumbai this year and successfully paced the 2:00 hour bus (ARFE 2016) and 2:10 bus (ARFE 2017). ). I was a winner in CSC 2016 (10k, age category 30-40) and runner’s up in CSC 2017 (10k, age category 30-45). I firmly believe that ‘what you give comes back to you.’ In about 2 years of running, I’ve benefited (and improved my running), mainly because of great running buddies and the community. It’s always a privilege to contribute back to a sport that has kept me fit and on my feet! I would like to see you in the 1:50 (fast-paced) bus that will move at an average pace of 5:10. Happy running!

I’ve started running since June 2017. I was lacking consistency and dedication big time in my life and hence to challenge myself, I looked up to running as a hobby with Salt Lake Runners. However, through immense motivation and support of team SLR, soon it turned into a passion and truly I started looking up to life more positively, objectively and brimming with confidence. My best effort would be in Airtel RFE where I finished HM in 1:46:45hrs.Through group participation right from collaboration runs, regular runs in salt lake area and the information being shared by seniors over WhatsApp, facebook etc I’ve come to realise that running is an ever evolving community which is always “inservice” to the society. Pacing brings the best out of an individual in that sense. My average speed would be 5:01 - 5:10min/KM

Yunam (Judy)

Hi everyone, I am Yunan. I am leading one Chinese company in Kolkata now. I re-started running since 2014 due to health problem. After hectic project life. I had gained 8 kilos and felt fatigue quite often. I decided to lose weight & become healthy. Running helps me in not only improving my health but also life style. I have become more disciplined in my daily life as well... I participated in Marathon only from last year after I shifted to Kolkata. I am one member of Uniruner group and I have been encouraged a lot by our runner friends. In the beginning I even couldn’t think I can run 15kms. I tried the first 10kms Run by IDBI Kolkata 2016 then I gained my confidence for other runs. Till now I have finished three half marathon, which includes 1) Sohraa Cherapunjee half marathon 2016   within 2:24 2) Airtel Delhi half marathon 2016 within 2:15 3) Vizag navy marathon 2017 within 2:17 Three 10kms: 1) IDBI Kolkata 2016 2) Airtel run for education, 2017 Kolkata 10.5 kms within 1:02 3) Tata Steel Kolkata 10k 2017 within 56 minutes After several marathons I understood that our body is much stronger and more intelligent than we think. When we started run we always feel pain and our body will continue to inform that we’d better stop as it’s painful. However after you rush to the finish line you will find it’s you who did it.  I have hurt my ankle when I ran 21kms in Vizag Navy Marathon due to lack of warming up. However only after the run I started to realize the pain.   Running taught me that we have to undertake certain pain to improve ourselves. The process to bear the certain pain which we can bear will only improve our figure, mind and health. Running is one moving meditation. It’s my great pleasure becoming one member of the pacer group... It’s my turn to share the experience of running. To motivate more people knowing that we too can run and we too can improve our performance by training. The only thing we should do is “Let’s start”.

I have been running for fitness and health for almost 7-8 years. I started participating in run from last 3 years. I have run TSK25 3 times and the AIRTEL Run For Education this year. Apart from this I regularly do 10-12 kms run for fitness at Lakes 3-4 times a week. Running is a passion for me now. Running is big stress buster and also keeps the spirit of life high within me. I enjoy running and find this to be the easiest of all the fitness activity one can do. Lake is the most beautiful place of Kolkata and that adds to my passion. Have been running for some time and PACING will give it a new dimension. I can cheer up others and motivate others to run. I am looking forward to have my first experience as PACER. I have been working for Kotak Mahindra Bank for 10 years. I am a banker and a seasoned sale professional. Apart from sales I love giving sales training. Have worked for CITI and HUTCH prior to this. Nitish Bharadwaj

Nitish Bharadwaj, a banker by profession looks at running as an escape from everything, apart from maintaining physical fitness. Run, burn and let go has been his mantra for two years. “When I set my foot in Kolkata, I was amazed to see the enthusiasm of running groups across the city. Well, it didn’t take me long to join such a group of crazy people called Unirunners and there has been no looking back since then”, rekindles Nitish. He is inspired by the challenges running has thrown to him. It sought for dedication, determination, self-discipline and effort. “The more challenging it is, the more changes it can bring in you”, he quotes. Abhinav kashyap

I am passionate about running because It gives me courage to take on the bigger challenges in life as whenever I come across a daunting challenge I think of how I pushed myself to finish a longer distance than in the past and went on to find my own Personal Best .   I prefer pacing to giving my PB as even a ray of hope can help you achieve what seems impossible and I want to be the ray of hope for all those who have signed up for their First Half Marathon but have a self-doubt on finishing the distance without injury, as every leader was someday a follower and I want to be the change the people in my Bus aspire to be for themselves     I will start slow to warm up the runners in my bus for couple of kms talking to them, singing and joking along with taking selfie breaks and refreshment breaks and get the adrenaline push to finish strong a memorable run     When it comes to running Mr Abhinav Kashyap is a go getter athlete who is not afraid of distances as he has started with a 5km run and celebrated his running anniversary with his maiden full marathon, all in a span of 53 weeks flat.
